How exciting to open the Age Epicure last week (when the latest Age Good Food Guide was launched) and spy an article on 52 places to visit around Victoria throughout the year – and discover that two places in tiny little Avenel were mentioned!

I was really thrilled to see the write up in Age Epicure on May 29 on the Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza and Garden. And even more thrilled to see it chock a block the following weekend. It couldn’t happen to a nicer couple – Cameron Ka Ka, his wife Janelle – have turned a rather run-down end of the old Harvest Home Hotel into a really funky little restaurant serving delicious food and wine, in sleepy little Avenel!

There was a moment, as I clamped on my helmet and clicked up the bike stand, where I did seriously wonder what moment of madness had inspired me to join this group of bicycle tourists in and around old Shanghai.

Sial

Picture for a moment Jeff’’s Shed in Melbourne, stretch it out at each end by 10-20 metres and then multiply it by 17! That is the size of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre! OKOK they do have a population of 23 million, as opposed to Melbourne’s 4 million, and it does draw people in from regions outside the city, to the north, south and west to attend shows. But, all that said and done, it is one big exhibition centre!

Prosecco

We love a new project every vintage. It keeps us on our toes and throws out new challenges and often teaches us so much about our own vineyard and the grape varieties we grow. One of this year’s new projects was growing and making our first Prosecco!

Verjus

I’m really excited about the reaction to my Verjus since it's launch last winter. I always wanted to make one, to use in my own kitchen and cooking, and to share with others.
