Don’t plan any weddings, overseas trips or trips too far from Melbourne any time between March 1 and 17 in 2013! It’s the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival! There are always loads of dinners, tastings and fabulous wine and food events that celebrate the wonderful wine and food of our State and City.
This year the Festival is Celebrating the Earth in many of its events, that’s “Terroir” and the flavours the soil exhibits in wine and food grown in it and how it inspires chefs and winemakers in their cooking and winemaking.
The organisers have drastically reduced the amount of events in the 2013 Festival. They insisted that it be a much more streamlined event than previous years. They also insisted that each event that is included has to be really special. People wanting to participate had to work hard to dream up some fun, quality events and interesting topics and themes.
We will be taking part in three events:
PUT VICTORIA ON YOUR TABLE CELLAR DOOR AND ARTISAN MARKET The gardens of Como House Saturday 2 March & Sunday 3 March
Cellar Door and Regional Producers Market is moving from Southgate to the lush green lawns and shady trees of Como House. (Southgate was lovely and central but we either got fried in the sun or washed away in the rain!). Winemakers, small and large from all over the State will be pouring their wines and regional producers offering up their terrines, fruit, vegetables, icecreams, breads ……. It promises to be family friendly and the perfect way to while away an afternoon with friends. Come and see us and try all the new vintage releases.
BOSPHORESCENCE Gigibaba Restaurant, Collingwoord Tuesday 5 March
This event developed from a seed of idea I started playing with in China last year when I travelled with the Premier’s Super Trade Mission!
My cousin and his wife, Sandy and Julie Cameron, were on the same trip and we thought it would be fun to do an event together at the Festival. Sandy and Julie are Festival Legends. They make the fabulous Meredith Sheep and Goats Milk Cheeses on their farm at Meredith (between Geelong and Ballarat). We approached one of our best clients, Johnny at Gigibaba Restaurant in Smith Street Collingwood and ran the idea of holding the event at his restaurant past him. Gigibaba specialize in delicious Turkish Mezze. They are a really buzzy little restaurant and bar in Smith Street. Their chef Ismail Tosun has designed a fabulous banquet for us, featuring Sandy and Julie’s yoghurts and cheeses and my wines. Normally the restaurant doesn’t take bookings, but for this special event they are. We’ll let you know when bookings open, but it promises to be a really fun night….
